OK, it's actually an Elgaria Multicarinata (Alligator Lizard). I saw this cutie during my lunch-hour hike above the Brand Library today. It was probably 12 to 14 inches in length.

When my wife discovered our cats stalking one in our apartment, the first words out of her mouth screamed "does it have legs?"

Those things are pretty bad ass. We've got a few that live in our porch/threshold thingy.
