I have been up Baldy dozens of times but had never bothered to go up the Backbone Trail, which is the most popular (and easiest). I have been down the Backbone a few times, but today was the day for a round trip. I started in Manker Flat, walked up the dirt road to the Ski Lodge and (finally) went up and down the Backbone Trail. There was hardly anyone on the mountain and the weather was great -- temperatures in the 60s. I saw no sign of the Sheep Fire that was menacing Wrightwood last Sunday. All in all, a great hike.
