Mt Whitney Day Hike: 22 Sept 2009
Three buddies and I completed our first trip to Whitney!
We left Whitney Portals at 4:50 am ... Outpost Camp, 7:20... Trail Camp, 8:50... Summit, 11:25. Left summit at 12:35. Return to Whitney Portals at 5:50 pm. I had some trouble coming down the mountain. I was Mr Spaghetti Legs. Feel great today, though!
The weather was perfect. 49° at the start and 58° on Mt Whitney.

Great job Mike P! Those times are nothing to be ashamed of--especially on your first trip up Whit! And everybody's legs get a little mushy on the way down; I'm pretty much always hating life on that final stretch below Lone Pine Lake As long as you get back in time for Portal burgers life is good
Thanks everybody!
I goofed in noting my times. We hit Outpost at 6:20 am and Trail Camp at 7:50 am. All other times are correct. I am absolutely amazed how Liz in an earlier trip report left at 4:30 am and made the summit at 9:45 am. Whew!
In retrospect, my training wasn't what it could have been. We returned from a 7-nighter in the Sierra in mid-August. Due to smoke and work schedule, I was only able to work in ONE 2 hour hike at Marshall Canyon between the backpack and Mt Whitney. I was hoping to do at least Baldy once or twice...
We also didn't get back in time for burgers. That, in and of itself, should make a person train harder
