Pleasant View Ridge? Crap. I know Gleason's toast, but how bad has Pacifico taken the hit?

Flames E of Wilson? Santa Anita Canyon?

I can't get the tower cam on Wilson to respond any more. Hopefully that just means that the power is out.

Frick. The N side of Wilson was so beautiful.

This was taken off one of the Sierra Clubs section:

"During the night the fire extended eastward and has encircled Mt.
Vetter and the Chrarlton-Chilao area.

The maps show it burning in Devil's Canyon, on Mt. Mooney, and threatening Newcomb's Ranch. It has also expanded into the upper West Fork, burning on the north side virtually all the way down to Cogswell Reservoir. One lobe appears to be making a run for Mt. Wilson from
the north via the next canyon to the west of Strayne's Canyon.
Another lobe is now burning the south side of Mt. Wilson near the summit.

Further south, most of Millard Canyon has been engulfed right up to and including Inspiration Point, however the fire has not worked downslope to Castle Canyon and Echo Mountain, nor is it on the slopes of Muir Peak yet.

Northward, most if not all of the Roundtop ridge is toast, including Granite Mtn and Roundtop, as is Pacifico. The Mt. Hillyer-Sulphur Springs area has not burned.

Major threats today include upper Devil's Canyon and thence into the Waterman-Twin Peaks area, Vetter Mtn and the Chilao country, Mt.
Wilson, Muir Peak, and the upper part of Eaton Canyon down to Camp Idlehour. A northern branch of the fire could crest over Bare Mountain and thence run further eastward onto Winston Ridge.

If the fire continues unabated for a few more days, it could well burn all the high country east to Cajon Pass. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope that the fire can be tamped down when it reaches the high country above the chaparral belt.

CORRECTION: The tower cam is up and running -- and all of the towers to the W are still standing. Let us hope that it remains so.

Quite a lot of flames here in Tujunga last night. The "call in the night" never came, thank God.

I've read that some homes were lost in La Crescenta. Anyone know where (or if this report is even accurate)?

Fire is REAL close to the telescopes and structures. It's all the way up to the parking area. Looks like it might be sticking low to the ground. No big flames are visible but a lot of smoke from under the trees.

Crap, looks like that nice Oak Grove in Haines Canyon about 2/3 of the way up the road before it turns out of the canyon is within the fire perimeter. Hope they didn't all get wiped out. Same with some of the nice oaks and sycamores up by the spring.

Yeah don't count up your losses until you can see'em

Those oaks at least are very resilient, the fires in SD a few years back went through places and it looked like they where done for, most survived.

The Sycamore's not so much

one "good" thing to come out of this is the destruction of the poison oak!

Hey, when I zoom in, the perimeter disappears. What gives? Probably just a problem with my settings.

There's a KTLA feed that is showing the top of the mountain (Mt. Wilson) is starting to burn. It's burning near the 100" Hooker Telescope.

I made the Opacity about 30-something % so it may just be hard to see.

under the Map 0901 folder the Active perimeter, rt-clk on the Style and Color tab

You can change the color and opacity values here

Make sure the Altitude is clamped to the ground

Note: the large amount of new smoke seen is due to backfires set by firefighters. This is the very best thing to do at the moment. Go California firefighters!
