Anyone going up to Etiwanda on 9/21/08?
Just start hiking. And while you are hiking think about it. You'll figure it out!HikeUp wrote:Thinking of heading up to Etiwanda on Sunday, and am looking for some extra motivation to actually get out there and do it instead of flaking out.
What causes the occasional lack of motivation to get out there? Ennui?
Goals! That's exactly what I do Kathy! Around a year and 9 months ago I set Whitney as my goal. As I started hiking all these trails for the first time Whitney was almost forgotten because of how new and exciting each trail was. Each hike became a goal in its self but it was a bonus to have Whitney way off in my mind as an ultimate goal. Always in the back of my mind. I like goals that I don't know for sure that I can do. If I reach it then I set a new one. If I don't reach it then I can keep trying and I benefit from all the preparation. Being healthy is a great motavation.KathyW wrote:Hikeup - Set a goal - such as a mountain or mountains you want to climb that you need to get into better shape to do and then start working toward it. I find that having a goal I'm working toward helps to keep me motivated.

A new hike is a great motivation. Go someplace you've never been before. Set your alarm clock one hour earlier and drive to San Jacinto.
That's just it I guess. I just met a goal last month and this must just be the inevitable let down that occurs afterwords.KathyW wrote:Hikeup - Set a goal - such as a mountain or mountains you want to climb that you need to get into better shape to do and then start working toward it. Yes Iron Mt. is on my list. I ran into Kathy, actually, earlier this year when I made a hike out to the saddle.
I have goals and specific peaks in mind, it's just a matter of motivating my self to drive to the trail head . I can feel the motivation returning though. A matter of time. Reading TR's help ...so keep em coming!

I think it's which ridge. What are you still in school or something?
Yeah...do I look like a rock monkey? Thanks for the suggestion good sir, but I was just looking for someone who might be heading towards Etiwanda on Sunday, ya know, to give me that kick in the ass to get out there. FYI, as a rule, I generally don't hike with USC fans.TacoDelRio wrote:I have an incredibly badass looking winter route planned on big Iron... you could shoot for that...
Something like 5k gain in short order on hard terrain... so it seems...
