Thanks David. Your description of the section between the bench and orchid camp is spot on to our "current status". Meaning thanks for the confirmation!

Went up Bastard Ridge to Jones Peak today. At the saddle I met a fellow working the Bailey Canyon trail, and asked him what shape it was in, he said it was all cleared so it is unofficially open. The connector down to Little Santa Anita from the ridge is in fine shape only changes are in the creek bed at the bottom but pretty minor. The entire hillside is now blooming and is just beautiful without the high brush and shade that used to be there. The trail from First Water along the creek that reconnects further up with the trail has been worked and looks in good shape. The entire trail itself has been widened for the run and I saw the main trail chief working a tree root that he said was bothering him and he was worried someone would trip over, very conscientious.

I'm curious who it was at the saddle that said Bailey was all cleared and unofficially open. Message me if you don't want to post info here.

I didn't catch his name, an older guy with clippers. He has worked the area for a while because he told me that he had done the Hastings Ridge years ago.

Sounds like Hiker Bob. Dead Hiker Bob. Hiker Bob's ghost! Who worked Bailey Cyn. & Hastings Ridge during the 2000's. I forget when he passed - probably in the 2010's.

Seriously though I don't know who it could be. Most of us on the trail crew are old, but most are clueless about Hastings. Weird.
