I don't think that is a Russula. It is missing some of the characteristics and the pocket stalked russula fruits under Monterey Pine. The pics are great though.

You might be right. I was looking them up on a mushroom app. There are many names for the mushrooms. It was just a guess.

right, the mushroom apps sometimes get it right, sometimes not. It is a good place to start. There is a website https://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/index.html that is helpful.
Saw these guys at the base of a log in Sycamore Canyon. They were about the size of my hand and kinda leathery. I mean the shrooms. My hands aren't leathery as far as I know.
