Yeah, as a kid I was on one of these flying from DC back to LA. We were less than an hour out of Dulles airport when suddenly there was a loud boom from the rear of the plane and some turbulence. Then we slowed down and started banking hard to the left. The captain didn't say anything and passengers were looking around nervously. Some started voicing concern about crashing. Finally, after we had turned around, the captain came on the speaker and explained that due to mechanical trouble we were heading back to Dulles. Apparently the rear engine failed due to a bird strike, we learned later. Thankfully we still had the two on the wings.
Highway 39 is open again. Looks like the fire never made it as far north as Morris Dam.
The burn area was between Rainbow Canyon Ranch and the Dam Wall. The Dam and the Silver Mountain area were untouched.
