Blurry photo of a cute yellow bird spotted on the Mt Wilson Trail, 2 September. Not a match for my usual local yellow friends. Is it possibly a female western tanager?

I concur. Western Tanager female.

?Cool, thanks! I have spotted males since they're easy to recognize, but never have clearly seen a female before.

Nice bird - good capture!

@Mike P and @oldcoot should also be able to help with this.

Whew! Yes, I agree with @HIkeUp. I'd go with a female Western tanager. Thicker bill than other green/yellow birds and the 2 wing bars... Against the branches the bird appears to be "tanager"-sized, too.
Good one, @Slowest_Hiker !

Thank you! ❤ the little tanager lady. The female pictured in my go-to ID book was less yellow and lacked the white below the wing, but indeed the wing bars excluded most any other candidate.
