Mushrooms in Islip Canyon

Nice pictures Sean. Was it at the base or near dead conifers? What size? I would need to see much more of the mushroom to make a field ID but they are possibly neolentitus ponderosas.

No. I don't think the ridge had conifers, even before the fire. The shrooms were found around 2750' elevation, just below this point.

They were about two or three inches in diameter, with about the same height. I found them in a small shaded section next to what might have been some half-burned scrub oaks that survived the fire. These are the other pics I took of them.

That would not be the one. Possibly its smaller cousin lepideus (also known as the train wrecker mushroom because it decomposes wooden railroad ties) but I can't see enough of the mushroom to tell. I would need to see the gills and the entire stalk including the underground part to have a chance at positive identification. It doesn't really matter because they are pretty. Thanks for the pictures.
