Last week I was in Phoenix and I managed to get out for one little dayhike. My knee wasn't up to Camelback so I opted for nearby Squaw Peak, the second-highest summit in the Phoenix area. I also refer to the old name rather than the new memorial title.
Not much to report, if you've ever been out there it's pretty steep and much like a stairmaster carved into the rock. I was surprised to find parking but expected to see a bunch of people on the trail and hanging around the false summit. It's about 3 miles round trip when counting the walk through the parking lot to the Ranger, but a good morning to get out anyway.
Pics:
Helpful signage.
Lots of this.
Mile marker on the trail. Summit way behind but less than a half mile away.
Camelback across the valley of the sun.
I am the conqueror of this little hill.

Oh my gosh, this was the first hike I did after I moved to Phoenix after college. Big independence thing for me.
Thanks for the photos. It looks EXACTLY the same. I like that.

I was doing an ASU campus visit with my daughter and family on Monday and had a couple hours to kill in the PM. Did an unplanned hike up Camelback from Echo Canyon in my street running shoes. I dig Phoenix (but I haven't been there in the summer).
Here is a pano from the crowded Camelback summit, Squaw Peak somewhere distant right.
