Yup, it was two weeks ago but I haven't had as much time sitting around the computer as I might have wanted - hazards of moving, lots of other stuff to do around the house.
Anyway part of my get-out=of-the-house plan for the holiday involved a longer walk, so we went up Baldy via the ski hut. Came back on the Devil's Backbone, stopping for some grub at The Notch and then strolled down the fire road. Once again, it was one of those days where things seem cloudy down here but really nice up high.
As usual, some nice folks to chat with on the trail, including some people carrying full packs doing a JMT training hike. Plus we also got to see the unique sight of some mountain bikers on the backbone, I wonder how far those guys made it.
Definitely another great day in the mountains.

iPhone photos below, forgot my camera again.

Not so much water right now.

Leaving ski hut, still a long way to go up.

Through the rock garden, the gf was wondering how much further.

One of the hard/steep parts is almost done when passing this tree.

I saw one other hiker on the Bear Flat trail, not in this picture.

Welcome to the summit, 37 people there when we arrived.

Visit 22 for me, 2 for her.

Looking back.

Despite the near-constant crowd of people going up, no one on the backbone.

Mountain bikers.

Lunch. The walk down after this is long and boring.

I love that route. Never gets old. And a cold one at the notch always makes it even better.

Always good fun on Baldy, especially when beer and sandwiches are involved . :D

Did you notice if there was much water running at the spring above the hut? Going up this weekend and want to plan my water supply. Cheers.

Water was still flowing. Might require a little more patience than usual but you should be able to fill bottles.
