went for a hike of Baldy on Sunday knowing the avy danger was high, so we chose to climb the less avy-prone east bowl. worked in our favor as we had a safe ascent/descent. the summit was blustery, the sun was cookin' (Taco, Tracie and Mark went home sunburned) and the snow was movin'. 2-3' feet of fresh snow followed by high temps = lots of snow jonesing to slide. be safe out there!

probably the last view like this for the season up SA Canyon

the couloir to the left was covered in snow in the morning

but in the afternoon the hot sun sent everything sliding. Warning: turn you laptop sideways to view video

might be the last time to see rime iced trees in the east bowl

and the fresh wind patterns on the lip of the bowl

Mark receiving the infamous Baldy spindrift welcome

Happy summiteers, Shin and Mark

On the descent we witnessed a trigger slide in the center bowl. Warning: novice videographer with foul mouth

Our only casualty of the day was some skin and blood from Tracie's left forearm. Dr. Demento applying first aid.

Cool pix, Norma! That seems to be pretty much the standard slide zone on Baldy. Maybe somebody needs to put some rebar in there or somethin'.

Sounds like a job for DG Industries!

I really enjoyed the commentary on your second video, Norma. It added drama.

That looked like a great outing. I went up Baldy today. It was quite a workout with all that snow. When I got back, I thought about appealing to the Governor to declare the trail below the Hut a Disaster Area. Way too damned many post holes to dodge. Then I remembered that he has some budget problem he's working on.

Here is the group making post holes below the hut, it was a slow descent.

Nice that you got a video of that Frank! That post hole descent was pretty miserable. Just ask Tracie! :(

I hope I don't sound mean when I say I crack up laughing every time I watch that video. It was even funnier to watch in person.
I think I can say that because I was stumbling and falling worse than all of you as I tried to figure out a way.

Alan, It truly was a disaster area.

Man, we do look pretty comical :P and No i was not beating on Mark again. he fell over with no help from me! i saw that i sat it down and did a little glissade at that point hoping to eliminate a few postholes but risking worse damage had a found a slightly submerged Yucca.

Bloodthirsty vixen that she is. Never trust a blonde grandma with an ice axe. Sure, they look sweet, but ...

We seen this behavior out of her before, I think it happens when the snow season is almost over and she needs to vent on the innocent companions of the wilderness  :D

Busted :D

In my family, i am the middle child aka mediator. It seems i get out all my repressed anger on my hiking companions. My sincerest apologies to all i have threatened, harassed or bludgeoned.

On second thought, never mind... you probably deserved it!!
