Paul (Tylenol) and myself went along the Mine Gulch trail to the Mine, and past it along a small trail. I have some sort of flu-cold thing going on, and I forgot my sunglasses (!), so we turned back.

We found that the best way to approach is directly up Mine Gulch by hiking down into the riverbed.

The route looks really really big from the small trail we took. 8)

I hope the weather cools down a bit. I am up for another attempt. Going light and fast, and hopefully not carrying whatever sickness I have now.

Taco: Is there much snow/ice in the Vincent Gap area? I was thinking of hiking the road from Vincent Gap to Dawson Saddle and then going up the hill there and on to Hawkins from there.

Has anyone been up there on the ridge around Throop/Hawkins recently?

We needed crampons in the morning. (started hiking around 0530) There is a lot of snow on north-facing slopes. I'd bring crampons. Ice is limited to the various couloirs on east/west slopes, or minor ice on trails (might be more if folks have gone up BP a lot).
