Rabid javelina bit hiker

State health officials Thursday confirmed a javelina that bit a hiker on his right arm and leg near Dove Mountain last week did have rabies. The 66-year-old man was treated and will recover. The javelina was shot and killed by a Marana Police Officer. Game and fish reported 261 cases of rabid animals in Arizona last year, most involving foxes, skunks and bats.
