A buddy and I set out for a two nighter, trailheading at Reyes Creek campground. I'd never been on this trail, and couldn't get any confirmation on whether there was water or not, so we both packed in 7L+ of water. Our plan was to hike 8 mi to Haddock and camp, with some dayhiking options for the next day. Trail is in decent condition. Passed a BS troop coming down from Upper Reyes. Having gotten a later start than we had planned on, we reached Beartrap camp around 3pm, and decided to camp there. Needless to say, having packed in 15+ lbs of water, we found ourselves in close proximity to a nicely flowing creek almost the entire time. Figures. Beartrap is a nice camp near a creek. Next day, dayhiked further on towards Haddock, but the trail was much less traveled, and thus not in very good shape. Lots of close quarters bushpushing, and a handfull of creek crossings. Really glad we didn't have our full packs on for that leg, it would have been most difficult. Ended up losing the trail probably a quarter mile from Haddock and turned back. Passed a lone hiker who later told us that he found the trail to Haddock and made it there without too much trouble. Lots of bear scat and a few prints. Packed out quite a bit of trash found on the trail, it's a shame how ignorant some are. Overall a decent trip on a moderately difficult trail.
