Sounds about right, Lilbitmo. I don't really see how bad folks would go up Baldy, all that trouble. Then again, there's been graffiti up there before.

It does get really windy up there so some flying rocks could have done it. I just have a very cynical view towards the human race these days.

I'd guess it's been there at least a little longer. I saw it in July '08 on my trip and it didn't look brand new then.

I don't find it too ugly; but I see how some could. I have one of these stations right near my house; but you can't see it 'cuz it's surrounded by 7 foot tall mustard.

Back to the original topic, I found West Baldy and Harwood to be good additions on my Baldy hike to add a bit of fairly easy mileage and acclimation time in preparation for my Whitney hike last year.

I'm loading my TR from the hike on Sat have a couple questions:

#1 What was the name of the guy that was on his way up, 460+ summits.
#2 Does anyone have more summits of Baldy than that?

I know all the names of the people I took pics of except for a few when I load the TR please comment on the names and will edit. Hey Taco what was your friends name and his dog's name as well.

Shin what was your friends name we hiked down with, I think I remember it was Bob...

John Wedberg, father of Kurt, has over 700 summits. Here is a picture of him in front of a picture of him on the wall of the Sierra Club Ski Hut. (He devidently didn't know that the picture was there and wanted to know why I insisted he stand in that poorly-lighted spot.)

If I got it wrong then its more being safe than sorry but...

I hike at night quite a bit these days.when i come back home and people hear of my little adventures its like planting seeds...tonight some seeds have began to grow and i have four people who are ready to climb baldy tonight..my thing is ... i toldthem to bring warm shit so they can be comfortable on the summit..i wanna stay a while and get my drink on..lol
i told the the temps overnight on top might be about 25-30 degrees...
they all said i was "bullshitting" and that was exaggerating....

what do you think the summit temps would be like?...tonites lows off mountain ave/210 fwy should be about 70 {elev 1000 aprox.}

I've seen liiiiiittle icicles around it, but never any climbable ice.

Hopefully this winter will be different! Gonna focus on weather forecasts and getting out there way earlier than necessary.

No, you are not right. Keep that link that 406 posted. It is about as close to the summit you can get good predictions for, year round.

Doesn't the run start in Manker Flats? I guess they could re-route to Stockton Flats, but Stockton doesn't have much in the way of infrastructure.

FWIW: My interpretation of the ANF closure order - Events with a Special Use Permit are allowed unless the permit is revoked. According to the Run To the Top website, the run is still a go.

In contrast, the Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run (Sept 19) also has a Special Use Permit but it was revoked earlier this week. Therefore, the run was canceled. Makes sense as 40-50 miles of the trail has burned and access to the remote aid stations towards the end of the run is non-existent...
