SGMDF Official Winter Party Thing
YO
Anyone interested in taking part in an OFFICIAL EXTREME SGMDF gathering?
Basically going to be a couple days after heavy snow, when we've got a few clear days forecasted. Meeting up atop Baldy. My plan is to bring and make sushi (Unagi, Sake, Toro, etc, cooking rice up there most likely) and plenty of beer. I plan on getting to the top early, before the sun is up or so. Hope to be able to make shelters out of snow, etc etc.
That's the basics of it. Who's in?
(I would put this in P&P but I want more folks to see it)

No worries!
The plan is to get up there real damn early in the morning myself, with or without anyone else.
My left knee is bad from the car crash, and my right knee always gives me crap from hurting it during rock climbing a few times. I am slow and will be carrying what will probably amount to "a great" amount of weight. Gonna be a relaxing day up there.
Igloos and beer. 8)

Is this an overnight?
Sounds like fun. I could bring Negra Modelo and real food.

Sounds like fun. I know the snow hasn't started falling yet but do you have a route in mind? I think a overnighter would be awesome. I will bring the Hefeweizen and some oragnes.
Probably on a weekend, since that works for most folks.
The route is left up to whatever anyone wants. I'll be hauling a load, maybe more than one, so Ski hut to some part of the Bowl will be mine. Basically a beeline once I hit clear terrain, like the bottom of the bowl.

I don't drink and drive, ever, so I'd like to combine this with spending the night down in the village (something I've been thinking about doing for a while anyway). To the motels and things get pretty full in the winter?

Don't know how full the lodges at Manker or in Baldy Village get.
You could also stay at a Sierra Club facility. You could stay at the San Antonio Ski Hut if it's an open weekend (pretty rustic) or at Harwood Lodge, again if it's an open weekend (i.e. with no reservation by a group).

spicy albacore? how early you plan to head up taco?
Spicy tuna sounds incredibly badass. I have a Japanese store right near my place in West Covina, so I will see if they have any.
I plan on getting to the summit very early, perhaps before dawn, or just early in the day. I just want a bunch of time to setup. I plan on making shelters with the snow in addition to using a tent/tents.

Sushi on Baldy??? After a major snow storm??? Heck Yeah - count me in.
I'm new to this board, but would love to meet some of the players here. A group sushi party on Baldy sounds crazy, which is right up my alley.
As long as it is not this Sunday, I'm definately in.
Taco - if you can somehow get a signup list going with names and what other people might bring, I'll be sure to contribute something. If the food list is full, I'll bring a couple of my favorite Geisha's.

Sounds like an idea.
I'm tight on cash, so I will only be bringing enough for myself plus a little bit extra. This is all really just supposed to be a fun social gathering, relaxing, up on top of Baldy in the snow during clear weather.
If it's clear this weekend... say.... Sunday?

Do you mind if they're inflatable?TacoDelRio wrote:Sounds like an idea.
If you focus on cooking enough rice for a few people (atleast me ), I can bring extra feesh. This might help to eliminate so many cook pots for the rice.TacoDelRio wrote:I'm tight on cash, so I will only be bringing enough for myself plus a little bit extra. This Sunday is the only day I cannot make it. Saturday is OK and next weekend is OK. If you do plan to go up this Sunday . . . . . DAMN! Wish I could make it - have fun.TacoDelRio wrote:If it's clear this weekend... say.... Sunday?
Most sushi rice is precooked and served at room temp anyways. Sometimes even on the colder side. I would suggest cooking at home, placing all cooked rice in aluminum foil, place in pot and then reheat just a little on Baldy. Just make sure you make sticky rice. Check the web for directions. Or we could jsut all eat sashimi, over jellyfish salad.TacoDelRio wrote:Gonna be fun with the rice! Dunno how much to bring... might cook/steam it down hear and reheat it up there if it doesn't ruin it.
Rideshare - we can use the extra man.DamOTclese wrote:It would take me like 12 hours to bicycle from Azusa, alas.TacoDelRio wrote:Anyone interested in taking part in an OFFICIAL EXTREME SGMDF gathering?
I might have one seat open in my car.
I plan on doing this when the roads are safe for all cars to go on. I don't have a vehicle fit for safe travel on really icy/snowy roads anymore.
I cook rice for sushi sometimes. I've got a Japanese store near my place. Kinda a Japanese-o-holic myself. I'm an Asian-washed Whiteboy.
