Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)
Driving to the North Backbone is probably unnecessary, as you'll have to walk that section either way when doing the loop. Might as well park at Guffy (or Lupine Road gate) and save some time--and gas. @Sean , thanks. Yeah, I kind of have things mapped out from the junction where the road down to L...

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)
Hi, @Anthony , thanks. You're information is about what I'd expect -- I didn't really think that the road to Lupine (3N39) would be significantly improved without a special project grant or something. Really, for the loop that I want to do, it makes the most sense to just park at Guffy and walk the ...

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)
What gates are open on Blue Ridge Road near Wrightwood? I'm interested in doing the Dawson Peak loop . Some of those trails out that way are all but non-existent and will take more time than usual, so I'd like to know how close to the trailhead I can get. The Dawson Peak Trail and the trail to Upper...

Re: Copter Ridge from Dawson Saddle (HPS Route 2)
Sean alerted me to the fact that I mis-identified Mt. Harwood in my labeled photo. So, correction noted above and here's a look at what we're really seeing. The areas shaded in reddish-brown are visible from Copter Ridge. Harwood cannot be seen. It looks like what we're actually seeing is a couple o...

Thanks. Yeah, I thought it was pretty mellow considering how much XC was involved, and I loved the fact that it was forested.Sean wrote: Excellent. Very nice pictures. Copter Ridge is one of the best.

Copter Ridge from Dawson Saddle (HPS Route 2)
Copter Ridge from Dawson Saddle (HPS Route 2), 14 July 2018 Map link: https://caltopo.com/m/TJ61 The week was muggy, but I needed some good training for my upcoming JMT trip, so I called a friend, talked it over, and decided upon Copter Ridge. We met at 0600 at the McDonald’s in Cajon Junction, hop...

And I would recommend something to filter with when using Lamel Spring. That place gets too much use for me and I'm very tolerant with water sources. I think I'd agree. Some springs you can collect water before it hits the ground or pools. Not so with Lamel. You have to take it from the pool that t...

@HikeUp , thanks. Yes, 2017. Reasonably current I thought. Errata: The photo identified as "Dorr Canyon" is not. It is the canyon above Icy Springs. The photo identified as "big drainage" is Dorr Canyon. Perhaps @Elwood would want to update for accuracy's sake. By the way, there...

Nice TR. Thanks for the beta, especially the photos of water in Dorr Canyon and S. Fork. I'm thinking about backpacking there soon and am (of course) very interested in water.
