Water Flow At Columbine Spring? (Icehouse Canyon)
Haven't hiked that area this time of year before. Does anyone have some good news about Columbine Spring flowing on the Icehouse Canyon trail? The one just below the beginning of the switchback section on the right.
Cheers

I was there on Saturday. The flow rate is great. Multiple liters per minute. Columbine Spring is very reliable.JDB22 wrote: Water Flow At Columbine Spring? (Icehouse Canyon)

I talked to some guys who had stayed at Cedar Glen Friday night. From what they said, the little creek below Cedar Glen is still flowing.
I talked to a couple of other guys who had been at Kellys Camp. They said the water there was drip ... ... .... drip ... ... ... drip -- in other words, super slow. Don't plan on water at Kellys.

I have never seen Columbine dry even late in drought years. Unfortunately, Kellys Camp spring does dry up by September most years.

Lotsa good stuff to access from Icehouse Saddle:
To the north, Telegraph Pk and Timber Mtn
To the east, the Middle Fork of Lytle Creek
To the SE, Cucamonga Pk and remote Etiwanda Pk
To the SW, Bighorn Pk and Ontario Pk as well as the XC route to the Sugarloaf
Tip: Few people check out Etiwanda, and the Middle Fork of Lytle Creek is a really worthwhile spot to visit.

I haven't been lately, but it would be extremely unusual for Columbine not to be flowing. It's pretty rock solid reliable.
Kelly Camp and Cedar Glen? Not so much.

I was up last weekend. Columbine was flowing. The spring at Kelly Camp was dust dry.

Thanks. I'm new to these mountains and last month the ranger gave me the impression that Columbine goes dry some summers. It was flowing well then so just wanted to be sure. And, yes, I did see that Kelly was completely dry. Thanks.

Clear and cool at Columbine.
Also flowing just below Cedar Glen.

Hi,
Can anyone confirm if there is water at Columbine Spring in Icehouse Canyon? I will be hiking up for the July 4th weekend.
Originally had a permit for two nights at Big Tree in the San Gorgonio Wilderness, but that campsite is no more.

I made the trip and Columbine Spring is flowing nicely. Fill rate of 1 liter in 20 seconds.
There is also solid water flow and a small waterfall about 1/4 mile up Lost Creek.

I can't count the gallons of Columbine Spring water that I have consumed. Sad to see it reduced to a trickle.

Thanks for your replies Jeff and Eric. I stopped at the spring on my way back from Cucamonga Peak today. Filled my 3 liter Camelback in less than a minute.
