Re: Wood Fires in the OC?
So, I wound up at O'Neill Regional Park . Did a little hiking on some of their trails. Hot, humid, and you could occasionally hear the noise from the 241 toll road, but still nice to be out. I asked, when I got there, where I could have wood fire. I was told by the ranger at the gate that all the ov...

Re: Wood Fires in the OC?
For some reason, Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park seems to attract aggressive lions. This small OC park has seen three lion attacks since 2000. I've hiked all parts of it and been to the site of each attack. There is food (deer) in the park for lions and the area is wedged in between housing developme...

Re: Wood Fires in the OC?
Thank you. I will check into those. Caspers Regional Wilderness Park - This is a county park just up SR64 from San Juan Capistrano. They've got a developed campground, and plenty of hiking trails, but no backcountry camping. This is the same park where there was a high profile attck by a mountain li...

Wood Fires in the OC?
Where can I test a wood stove in the OC? In the San Gabs, I know I can go to any trail camp (Hogees, West Fork, Little Jimmy, etc.) and use (legally!) a wood stove there. But where can I go to in the OC? The ideal would be something I could hike to, but I'll take what I can get. I've heard of Fisher...

Re: Lost & Found
I found the lower section of a BD Trekking Pole (including the tip) at the Mt. Waterman Trailhead on Saturday. Well, the use trail trailhead I should say, not the crappy official trail head that is so oddly placed further up the road.
Let me know if you lost it.

Re: Lost & Found
You must be living right Jimbo. I wish. But God smiles upon whom he smiles. We had a collision with a deer while we were on vacation last week at 70 mph at 2:00 A.M. People die in such things and/or vehicles get totaled. I lost a right side mirror. All things considered, that's a pretty good outcom...

Yeah, but a 100% closure? C'mon. What about legitimate users like canyoneers? Sounds like surgery with a chainsaw to me. They could be more selective.

OK but not great shape. A lot of loose slides on the trail, burying the tread. You just scramble up and over them; no big deal to me, but the guy I was with was freaking out.

Rico, I'm shooting with a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX30V. Pretty nice camera although I understand that Sony is having some serious problems as a corporation. Not sure I'd buy anything from Sony right now.Uncle Rico wrote: ↑Really nice pics HJ. Great resolution and sharpness. What are you shooting with?

one need not look for a mysterious love triangle, murder, aliens, leprechauns or banditos for an explanation. Leprechauns! Dang it, it was the leprechauns. OK, good point. We're trying too hard here.
