Re: 20110227 SA Falls and Apple Valley Crags

Obie: I wish they'd made them saddles back when I was riding centurys and whatnot. Prolly could have avoided some of the, uhh, dysfunction which could sometimes occur. Yea, I went up north and rode a couple days on a borrowed MTB with the old style soft saddle. It also had one of those 'shoc...

Roadies & Cars: another rider dies in OC

This is another in a series of deadly accidents in CDM/Newport area. Most of my friends & I train in this area and it is unsettling, to say the least, how many people go down out here. Time for a mass ride thru some of the high-end enclaves up on the hills. 22 y.o. and 16 citations in 5 years an...

Re: Achromatosis

These deer live on the Ridgewood Ranch. Beautiful area. http://www.seabiscuitheritage.com/conservancy.html Interesting history to this ranch. As for the white deer, they are descendents of the herd raised at San Simeon by W.R. Hearst. They are still pure white - they have not interbred with the wild...

Re: Joshua Tree: GT Road to Berdoo Canyon Rd.

I fell a couple times on the bionic leg but in the sand - can't get my brain to change pattern and fall to the right. Most cyclists fall to the left...it's hard to change. Ride was 7 hrs. and around 60 miles. I wonder why that is, I'm thinking back to all the times I've bailed on my bike and 99% of...

Joshua Tree: GT Road to Berdoo Canyon Rd.

Saturday was partly sunny, breezy and warm. Found a campsite early Sat. morning at Ryan. Loaded the MTB and left for Geology Tour Rd. on the paved road. Took GT Road to the intersection with Dillon Road and headed towards Berdoo. Steady climb (easy 3-4%)but loose sand. I was in the saddle up the rid...

MTB & Road training: JTree Sat/Sun Feb 5-6

I'm doing a couple rides around JTree this weekend. MTB: Geology Tour Road - Berdoo Canyon. 30-50 miles Roadie: Ride down to Colorado side: 60-120 miles depending on conditions etc. I'm throwing the tent up either at Jumbo Rocks or Hidden Valley. If there's no room at the campsites I'll take a turno...

The Iditarod Trail on a Snow Bike: Mike Curiak

Great stuff again from Curiak. The videos are fine quality. Been waiting for this report for some time - he says it's like a full-time job putting all this together. For the record: MC did the 2010 Ititarod (1,100 miles) unsuported - all-up weight of bike was 145 pds....and still put the effort in t...

Re: Joshua Tree: Camping & Riding

Call me crazy, but I thought Joshua Tree was mainly sand. Do you stick mainly to the roads and trails (?) or huff and puff it through the grainy stuff? We're doing the dirt 4WD roads to get me and the busted flipper back up to speed. Yea, it's pretty much sand on the descent of GT Road...looks to b...

Joshua Tree: Camping & Riding
