Re: Corcovado National Park
There were lots of different birds. I didn't take photos of most of them, or remember their names. It's definitely a good place to go if you're into that.

Re: Corcovado National Park
Regretfully, I did not. This was before the check-in at the park, and wandering off even a little bit to check out the poop may have been frowned-upon.

Cerro Chirripó
Next up in our glamping-in-Costa-Rica series is the climb to the country high point: Cerro Chirripó. This is also a national park, and also has lots of rules. You don't need a guide on the main route, but you do need to pre-reserve a permit and you are restricted about where you can sleep. You also ...

Corcovado National Park
Sondra and I just went to Costa Rica to walk around in the jungle and to climb a mountain. I've been wanting to see a Tapir, so we went to the jungliest place we could find: Corcovado national park on the Osa peninsula. As a national park there are lots of rules about what you can do, and how you ca...

When I did this I started in LA, rode over Cahuenga Pass and the Santa Susanna pass into Simi. Then Moorpark and Balcom Canyon to Santa Paula and 150 to Ojai. Recommended!

Taco and I both use a Tyvek tarp. My review: works OK, but is extremely loud and crinkly. Maybe that goes away after some time, but I'm not there yet.

Re: Mini trip report: Baldy on Nov 18
I didn't go over there, so take it with a grain of salt. I'd guess strongly that snow shoes wouldn't help you: there isn't a ton of snow, and what there is isn't soft and deep to make snow shoes useful. Ice axe and crampons probably are a requirement, though

Mini trip report: Baldy on Nov 18
Just went up Baldy via the ski hut and the trail around the bowl. The bowl is fairly dry on the right. The left side LOOKS snowy, but maybe still isn't enough to climb. The backbone (and the traverse across Harwood) look dry, although we didn't go over there. Traction devices become necessary at the...

East Fork bungee people being sued, or something
So I guess there's a lawsuit. I'm not comfortable telling people what to do on their land, but it'd be nice if that place wasn't a zoo anymore. Anybody know how serious this is?

Re: Getting weather info
I think the NWS site is working: just clicking on the map still does the right thing for me. For instance: Idyllwild (Humber Park) . It says Point Forecast: 2 Miles NE Idyllwild CA 33.76°N 116.7°W (Elev. 5991 ft) San Jacinto Peak . It says Point Forecast: 5 Miles NE Pine Cove CA 33.81°N 116.68°W (El...

Re: Getting weather info
Hi Ben. I usually use the NWS pages (what you're bookmarking), and it seems like it works OK? Do you have an example of a MapClick URL redirecting to a too-large-to-be-useful zone? The link you have posted here is already a zone link.

Neat! I was there a few months ago. We dropped down the other side on the return, and looped back via the Strawberry Potrero. It's wonderful. Go there.

Re: Can we change our avatars?
I just tried it, and it does look broken. The people running the site aren't the best. You can try to email " support@tapatalk.com ", but it's probably not worth your time. Unless you really REALLY hate your avatar, I'd just wait for somebody else to complain about it, and for them to then...

I could be convinced to go back to the Triplets, if somebody wants to go up there. If you want to try the North ridge of Iron Mt, I'd be down to do that too. Haven't summitted from that direction yet.

Oh, that's weird. There are lots of lots in that area: just below the big switchback on the toll rd: https://caltopo.com/map.html#ll=34.1892 ... =parcel_ln If you bought it, and somehow managed to get the proper permits, how would you access it? Would somebody give you keys to the gate on Pinecrest?

Neat! You definitely need a google account to give them images, but I thought you could tell them to not require one for people viewing the images? There's no button you can push?
