I met with my usual crazies and this time we hiked in the pouring rain. We met early to beat it but that didnt happen. We met at Stunt Road then drove to the secret trail making it a carpool shuttle. Anyways, It was a fun day of rock scrambling, hiking on muddy trails and trying not to fall on our butts. Total stats 9 long miles and 2000' gain but seemed like more.

Is that spine the actual trail or a choice to do some scrambling?

It's a choice for sure. My crazy group always chooses the more challenging way to do things. You can also drive to a parking area on the other side if you just want to check out the lookout tower then it's only a mile to the summit.
There is also the Stunt Trail that follows a fire road. It's a really pretty area.

Fyi you can also bag Calabasas peak from that road.
