Spent a couple of hours recently checking out Towsley Canyon. Kinda cool. Better than I expected really.

I work in the industrial area off Halsey canyon road. I drive by this area every work day. Done a fair bit of hiking in the area of your report on and off trail. It is different for sure but interesting. The area above the narrows have several oil wells in years gone by

Do you know how far west and/or northwest after the Narrows can you go off-trail before you hit private property? Have you made your way to Point 2872?

I've done a couple write ups of this area. You can hike to Towsley Peak and continue along a cool narrow ridge to the trail end of the fire road that comes up from Pico Canyon. There is also another unofficial trail that when you reach the apex of your climb separating Wiley and Towsley continues along the ridge to the south and then circles above Rice and Wiley Canyons. There is a nice vantage point called Tick Rock that you can hang out on. Your options from there is to thrash down to Rice or backtrack a bit and follow the east side ridge above Wiley back to the trailhead.

My next goal is to see if I can connect the N/S ridges to the top of the Santa Susannas and make a long loop via all the trails mentioned above. The crux will be those ridges that have some use trails but we'll have to see how far they are viable and if they taper out.

Thanks for the cool info David. I saw your previous TRs but they didn't resonate because I'd never been to the area. Now that I have a better sense of things, that Towsley to Pico traverse sounds kinda fun. Is Towsley Peak what is shown on the topos as Point 2872? http://caltopo.com/map.html#ll=34.356,- ... 9&z=15&b=t

I saw this use trail and was wondering about where it went. Now you've got me interested in this as well. 8)
