Has anyone ever been or heard of the Kelsey Silver Mine?

Its located in the lower san gabriel canyon, right across the Morris Dam

First read about it in lagoldmines website.

We went to take a casual stroll, not expecting to reach it. But we were able to climb the waterfalls and get through the poison oak and brush safely enough.

This is the start, Silver Fish Rd.

So poison oakey

One of three or four waterfall climbs

The Mine shaft, eerie light peering out

Its a really cool tunnel! Its about 650 feet total. The main level in loops around!

Theres also a lower tunnel too. You have to crawl to access the lower passages

A frozen flooded section. The water was icy cold of filled with thin calcium sheets. So neat!

Cool mineral stuff!

I'd definitely come back!

As cool as this is - coming from a truly claustrophobic freak, they only thing that could have made me feel more frightened and clammy, is if you could have photoshopped a rattlesnake watching a Phish DVD into the foreground of this photo :P

Nice TR, for sure.

I knew it was there, but never visited the site. I did hike over the ridge above and descend into Roberts canyon behind the Azusa stables (Now a housing tract). Some huge mountain quail took a few years off when they jumped up right in front of me. I was by myself and it was tough going getting down the other side.

Holy mineshaft, batman! I've been up the ridge to Silver but didn't know about the mine. Just getting there would have been pretty cool.

Crawling through a 2' space to get to a lower section of a long abandoned mine? I have to applaud and cringe at the same time. Glad you guys made it out OK.

Awesome pictures from the mine.

Wow, Calcite rafts huh? Seems like you were the first in a *long* time.

I tried it once. Danced through some poison oak only to find myself covered in ticks a bit further up. We aborted mission.
