This story is truly tragic. So many things went wrong. And I don't doubt that the BSA share some blame. I once had to rescue a backpacking Boy Scout and his mother from the Sturtevant Trail. The leaders let them go off on their own, they took a wrong turn, and got lost and dehydrated.
Reid's parents are suing the Boy Scouts of America for wrongful death. They say they signed their son up for a beginners' backpacking course, but he ended up on a more difficult trail in 99-degree heat. The teen ended up collapsing on a remote part of the trail and police say it was nearly impossible for paramedics to reach him in time...

He's a minor and it sounds like there were some very poor decisions made by the "adults" in this case so I've got no problem with this.

"They" lost me from the get-go.
Id say they dont see any money for gross negligence.
Im pretty much done looking at the info and cant see a different conclusion.
The 2 others should be comforted and the tragedy shouldnt be compounded.
