Sleeping bags...
I need a new sleeping bag. I want something that will keep me warm (head to toes) on cold nights in the Sierra Nevada. Mostly used here in the SG's, but I don't want to be overly modest and freeze when I go elsewhere, like Shasta, Hood, various Cascades, the Sierra, etc. Budget is something around $...

Re: Off Road Vehicle - 4WD Thread?
Go for it.
I'd add, but I was too young when we went out and found some pools of water with trout in them and all sortsa junk.
I can't afford an OHV, so I drive my Chevrolegs...

Re: Chapman Trail
I still have to visit that campground. Was there a lot of brush between the northernmost point you went, and the ridge to the northwest (leads to Thunder)?

HE, I've got a bunch of sake, just not that high speed stuff.
Augie, thanks. Hiking on weekdays is the best. That's when I go most of the time, and I've had Mt San Antonio all to myself on many occasions, usually at night.

Got that from MPnet!!!!! I got sick of searching for mountaineering related pics that weren't copywritten... so I chose good ol' Lando Calrissian.

Re: First Forum specifically for the San Gabriel Mountains
We all go into the mountains to get away from "civilization", traffic, loud noises that aren't rockfall or weather related, and people in large groups, unless they're your friends. Peace, basically. Let's keep the peace (but keep talking about useful stuff!) One thing I personally hope for...

Re: Possible Winter Climbing Routes
I'd like to go up Snow Creek with someone, so we can properly avoid the guard station. When I was in Jepson Bowl, the north ridge caught my eye. The bowl looks cool, but the ridge just looks like something I'd love. I did Register Ridge in the summer, so I may use it as my default route to Baldy in ...

Re: Mount Hawkins, Copter Ridge and Mount Islip
Sorry I was so slow (gave you time to rest!).
I got a bit of sleep when I got home, woke up 2 hours later feeling bad. Ended up throwing up everything I'd eaten at the restaurant... good times.
EDIT: Oh yeah, pics to be uploaded soon. Got a bunch, some real nice ones came out!

Re: Possible Winter Climbing Routes
Anything south-facing is early season. I should work on the list so it's a bit better. I don't have everything on there yet. As for conditions, I guess wait a few days to a week, and anythign south-facing not on a ridge should be good to go. North facing stuff lasts a long time, minus ridges. Ones t...

I might join y'all. I'm sorta only up for Sugarloaf through Etiwanda... but I may stay on. Dunno if that helps or hinders.

SNOW - Questions, Forecasts & Reports About Snow
Here's the video I put together from September 22-23, 2007. Took advantage of the snow. Fourth attempt on the Baldy Bowl, and first ascent for me! https://www.youtube.com/embed/khXvuhbQfBk I have a bunch of other videos on my site there in the San Gabriels. Warning, I tend to curse, I guess.
