I didn't know the Torrey Pines in La Jolla weren't doing well, sorry to hear that I've been hiking there several times, the last time with my son when he was about 10 months old.

Santa Rosa is definitely worth the effort and wind - it felt much more wild than Santa Cruz, in a good way.

There are coast redwoods and giant sequoias planted at nearly every picnic ground, camp ground, and ranger station in Southern California - they do not occur down here naturally.
