This "feature" is kinda half-assed, and that's the fundamental problem here. Can you point me to the edited post?Uncle Rico wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 3:39 pm I tried editing a post to add the clickable link, but failed.

bbcode for clickable latitude,longitude pair
Fellow eispiraten! I just added a custom bbcode to make latitude, longitude pairs into clickable links that route to caltopo. So instead of typing 34.123,-118.456 you can type [latlon=34.123,-118.456] And you get this: [latlon=34.123,-118.456]. Clicking shows the link in caltopo, with some hard-coded...

I don't think anybody is comparing this (Taco: we need a name!) with Yosemite. But it's infinitely closer, and has infinitely more exploration potential.

Re: Bivys and sleeping bag
I THINK I want a bivy? I've used a single-wall tent in the past, and never had a condensation problem. Was I getting lucky?
If a bivy doesn't solve condensation, then what problem does it solve?

Some crag in the middle of nowhere on the side of Hawkins ridge
This Sunday, after a nice night at Deer Spring camp, Taco, jeko1034, Ali and I went to climb a crag on the West slope of Hawkins ridge. This would be a first ascent. Taco and Jeko1034 checked it out earlier, and I don't know the details of the planning; they can comment on that here, if they want. A...

Re: Strawberry Peak from Colby Camp
I biked over to look at the start of this recently. There's a fancy-looking bridge over Big T (apparently it's a "Bailey bridge" . R0005788.JPG And the trail start was marked and looked non-abandoned: R0005791.JPG David: so the whole thing that connects to the Strawberry Potrero is a new r...

You just started this thread in the "Flora and Fauna" group. Did you want its own group, like "Flora and Fauna", but separate? I'd prefer to have fewer groups, so I'm not excited about splitting this out. Is that ok?

Re: Iron Mt from Allison mine in 2024
Roughly 14 mi, 6700ft gain or so. Terrain is rough, so this is a much bigger day than going up/down the trail on the S ridge. It's a good loop; I don't know about "best" though. Try them all!

Iron Mt from Allison mine in 2024
Some years back I summited Iron Mt via its SW ridge, approaching via Allison Mine . I haven't been doing as many of these sorts of trips as I used to, and I've been wanting to reassess my fitness level. So yesterday I teamed up with Wes and Jeff and Gautier to repeat this route. We walked up the Eas...

Thanks for the report, and glad you were able to complete the route. Where's the area with the trail work? Up to the saddle from the start?

Re: Chilao 11/28/13
I suspect he might have lots of photos for each trip, but only a select few were included in the trip report. And that there's no automateable way to match them up. But he can hopefully tell us that I'm wrong.

Re: Chilao 11/28/13
AW: if you Still have the photos for all your old reports on a disk drive somewhere And have some automateable way to convert your trip-report image filenames (like "tr6.jpg") to the images you have on your computer Then we can do an automated mass-reimport to get everything back. The seco...

Wow. What an adventure! The crag you did get to looks like it could be worth climbing too? We haven't heard of anyone going to the "goal" crag? No trip reports, no mountainproject? Nothing?

Re: A land assessment in the Los Padres
It's a 5 acre lot, the smallest one in the neighborhood. It would be interesting to know the history of how the lots came to be, and why they're different and all that. If we ever come back (unclear why anybody would), approaching from the E (I5) could maybe work better. It's longer, but you'd be sp...

A land assessment in the Los Padres
So back in 2002, a friend of a friend of a friend bought some land at an auction. This is in a remote location, and he never got around to doing anything with it. Or even ever visiting it. So today, over 20 years later, Crosby and I went out to assess the property. We're going into the Los Padres NF...
