One of the aspects I liked about Eispiraten.com before it was Eispiraten.com was how Travis Linds (the founder) would use a website called GPS Conversions or something like that to convert his GPS tracks to Google Earth KMZ files.
Well, lately have been working on my old vanity website, which for many years was just a basic homepage with my e-mail address, and adding a bunch of simple but useful online tools. This week I worked with Anthropic’s Claude to code a couple of GPS track manipulation tools:
Mitch's Awesome GPS Track Converter
Mitch's Awesome GPS Mapper
The second one is by far the most ambitious (all the other tools are pretty simple affairs). The idea is to be able to quickly get a PNG of a track on a map that you can send to friends without having to open CalTopo (which I love) and set up an image output.
I can post the gory details of how it works if anyone is interested. For now I invite anyone with time on their hands and a few GPS tracks on their hard drives to give these tools a whirl and let me know what you think. Claude and I are thinking of a few enhancements to make to the tool, including shareable links, but if you have any ideas of your own let me know.
