Boney Mountain vs Peak

On Feb 16, 2025 I did the attached route, going up the Mishe Mokwa trail and down the Backbone trail back to the Sandstone parking lot. There's a trip report with pics at my site.

I thought Boney Peak was another name for Boney Mountain on the lower left edge of the map.Image. Now I see that Boney Peak is between Inspiration Point and Sandstone. I didn't spot the difference at the time because after I got back to the Inspiration Point area I stopped looking at the map.

Is Boney *mountain* an actual named peak (named other than by AllTrails/Google)?

I wasn't able to find a use trail and without that getting to the top looks like it would require walking through a lot of dense brush. Does anyone know if there is a hidden use trail and where it starts?

It is a provisional peak and gets confused with Pop Top frequently, very few people go up there.

The 2016 report from that page matches my experience about not finding a use trail, but based on the 2016 report it sounds like both of us didn't descend far enough down the Backbone trail to the west.

The 2019 report from that page is confusing Mtn with something else. I assume Pop Top is the terminus of this:

There is a Boney Peak between Sandstone and Inspiration Point. It's on the Sierra Club lower peaks list #62.

The Boney Mountain on the topo, the one far left on your map, is a different peak. I haven't attempted it, but every report I've read mentions bushwhacking and scrambling.
