USFS confirmed the station at Keller Peak was destroyed in the Line Fire.
One near Buck Point is likely also a casualty of the Bridge Fire, but nobody has laid eyes on it yet.

Do you physically have to visit these to pull the data out? So you don't know with 100% certainty what survived and what didn't until you go there?

Normally no, data transfer would be automated*, often by cell modem nowadays in remote sites in the western U.S. like these. But fire or other disaster could affect power/comms without destroying the station. So eyes are needed to confirm what's gone on and whether return to service is feasible.

* Exception: a very few sites in the Sierra were still hike-in data retrieval, last I asked anyway.

P.S. not sure what happened with this being a new topic; I was replying to an old thread as far as I knew.

I created a new topic for your post, since it wasn't related to the Gleason topic. To which topic were you trying to reply?

Ah ty. That Gleason topic diverted into a pic of the Keller GPS site eventually. But I see your point.
