What a weekend: took Dima out to Idyllwild for his first trad or multipitch climb and he absolutely crushed it; made short work of white maiden's (5.8 var, 800'), then since we finished relatively early, went for extra credit up El camino real (10-, 500'). We couldn't resist doing the classic layback third pitch despite the sun setting, but it sure made for some great views. If Dima was scared shitless, he sure didn't seem that way!
Then we primitive camped off of s ridge road just outside of town, where I was officially indoctrinated into the cult after applying an eispiraten sticker to my helmet.
The next day we hiked Cornell peak from humber park (15mi, 5000') for some fun 4th class and views. The 4th class involved maybe 15 feet at the very top, but I very much enjoyed the rock scrambling on the last couple hundred feet of vertical gain. Great views of all kinds of mountains, farms, salty seas. And we kept an admirable enough pace, despite starting close to 11am, to make it to the lumber mill for some local eats.
