Orchard Camp

Hiked with my Wednesday group and invited Jeff. It was the perfect overcast day for a hike on an exposed trail.
At the start of the hike we saw several posters regarding the lost hiker Zach who is a father of two boys. Although I don't know him personally, it made me sad that we have lost quite a few hikers this past year.
It also reminds us to be prepared and always let someone know your plans when hiking solo.
Anyways, on a happier note, a few of my hiking buddies had never explored Charlie's trail en route to Orchard. I was more than happy to show them the way. It's a gentle climb as it switchbacks along the ridge then reconnects with the Mt Wilson trail.
Once we reached Orchard Camp we took a snack break and enjoyed the views.
I noticed new signs which displayed how the camp looked back in the day.
After group photos, we headed to first water via a short cut, then checked out the Old Gauging Station.
I was really looking for mushrooms and l
found a few. First Water was lush and green. The stream was flowing nicely.
On the return, I spotted a mylar balloon. Jeff decided to climb a tree and grab it. He tried to do a good deed but unfortunately cut his thumb. Thankfully it wasn't too serious and he was able to recover the balloon.
Overall, a nice hike, good company and great weather.
