I headed up to Forest Falls to go for a run yesterday, but it turned out there was an evacuation order because of mudslides: https://www.sbsun.com/2022/09/12/floodi ... no-county/ Apparently they got 2.5 inches of rain yesterday, and there were burned areas near Forest Falls and Oak Glen where there wasn't enough vegetation to hold the dirt. Various sections of Highway 38 have been closed on and off. Currently you can get from Mentone to Jenks Lake Road to access the South Fork trail (which I did as a plan B), but there are mudslides farther up. In Forest Falls, they also had the road blocked a few weeks ago by debris flows where the various creeks cut through the road.
