Been seeing this label called "Johnson Corner" in the San Gabriels for quite some time now. I never really cared to research it, but search results are futile. Does any one know the origin of this place name ? It's located by Ross Mtn

Where are you seeing this? Is this google's secret data, or something?

So I now know where Google got it: from the USGS. Their "place names" database lists it:

https://geonames.usgs.gov/apex/f?p=138: ... n%20Corner

It doesn't say much though.

I think it's a mistake. GNIS classifies it as a "populated place" which doesn't make sense.

Yeah, it's not right. There're lots of such "populated places" in their database. I'm more annoyed at the unclear citation, which makes it impossible to tell where the name came from. For what it's worth, I looked around in the newspapers, and found nothing significant. But I did learn that Iron Fork used to be well-known for its fishing. And I found some old article describing in detail the planned road in the 1930s.
