The small concrete building at 0:09 in the video is a stilling well for measuring the river flow. At 0:15 the cable car is used to measure river flows above 1,000 cubic feet per second.
Many years ago I spent some wet hours in that car cranking up and down on a 75 or 100 pound torpedo weight with a water flow velocity device attached measuring stream flows. Besides our notes, written in pencil on waterproof paper, our most important tool was a heavy wire cutter to cut the cable holding the torpedo weight if a large tree caught it and pulled the trolly car almost horizontal.

Its such an embarrassment for the decline.I have never been there but historically significant.Where is Hilda Solis? Good thing no-one can build on it.
That must have been before.....when the road wasnt missing one asphalt ...which was repaired....to be undone by our FS.
