Some of you have already seen this, but with the wider approach to trip reports here, I'll post some shots here.

Back at the beginning of the month, my wife(69 years young) and I(60 years old ) went on a 5-day backpack into the North Fork of Big Pine Creek. We were likely the slowest hikers on the trail, but it was great nonetheless.

A view of the Middle Palisades from the beginning of the North Fork trail:

My child bride still looking fresh after a short distance on the trail, with the down canyon view behind her:

This is the North Fork right as it charges down Second Falls. This is like heaven, as you have continuously gained elevation since starting the hike and now there is a more or less "level" section until you start up towards First Lake:

First Lake is right over that darker rock ledge at the center of the picture, right under Temple Crag.

Here is First Lake. We made camp on its upper side.

I pulled this nice Rainbow out of First Lake. . .Delicious with our Pasta Primavera a la Mountain House!

We met several sets of climbers, some headed for Temple Crag, others for the peaks of the Palisade Crest.

I would love to go to the Sierra's, its just so beautiful. Just dont have the beautiful lakes here in southern california mountains.

Nothing like swimming/fishing before going to sleep, or when you wake up. It'd be marvelous.

Nice! Thanks for the TR and pictures. I like reading TRs from anywhere because it gives me ideas on where I might want to go next or there is useful beta in there.

Yes! It's there. And you simply walk to get there! Amazing! :D

I made the hike, and camped at the 5th lake almost 15 years ago. I did it when I was a softmore in High school. That was the first trip that I learned about altitude, and dehydration. Sleeping above 11,000 feet

A couple of links to the area.
