Warm Springs Mountain

On Saturday, I hiked in Castaic and visited Warm Springs peak for the second time. I invited 3 friends. We drove in separate cars and we maintained the 6 ft distance. When I bagged this peak last year with my friend Dave, the creek was dry and it was 101-degrees by the time we got back to our cars. This time we had cool breezes as we ascended the summit. It was a perfect day for a hike and we had the trail all to ourselves. I spotted four waterfalls along the way and two jack rabbits. The creek was overflowing with water.

Neat! I was just in that area. It rained on Sun. Was Sat dry? Is the route a trail? Road? Is it overgrown at all?

Hi Dima
I was there on Saturday. Not one drop iof rain. No overgrown trail. Just a long meandering fireroad but the views at the summit are worth it. There is also a mysterious old mine hidden by some bushes along the road. At the top of the peak there is a grove of pine trees and a shady place to relax. The 360-degree views at the top are very nice.

I did this peak today from Templin Hwy, hiked down the fire road along Castaic Lake. Just before the end of the road there is an obscure turnoff for an old fire road. It is passable for almost 4 miles following the South ridge with typically knee high growth. At the very end you leave this road and climb a firebreak to the summit. This fire road can be seen coming the other way just before you start up the final climb to the peak. It was a long ten miles from there back to the car. All together the route was around 20 miles with most on fire road in just under 8 hours. Not sure the last time someone climbed the peak via this route, lots of fun albeit a long day.

Wow! That was a long day. I didn't know about that route. I'm glad you made it back safely. Did you find the register and benchmark?

Yes I did, the paper folder is already falling apart with lots of loose paper. The first pics are the view of the lake from the south ridge. Apparently people used to drive this old fire road but one car didn't make it. :( Flowers were in Fish Canyon on the way down to the Narrows.

David, the South side looks really pretty. Interesting to see that car. Nice pics.
