Now that I am getting back into my regular hiking routine, I did three hikes last week. The first was on Tuesday. We hiked near the Kobe Bryant helicopter crash site. We started the hike at Juan Baptista de Anza Park. We did a lollipop loop hike on a ridge across from the crash site. We hiked on a couple of short, steep ridge trails around the Grasslands & Talopop trails in Calabasas.

Were you looking down on it from the ridge? How close could you get? I imagine there is still some investigation going on.

We were actually on the ridge across from the site. There is a way to sneak up close to the crash site. However, there are police vehicles parked at all the entrances of the main trailheads surrounding the crash site including the school nearby. One of my hiking buddies is going to show me how to get in closer so I might check it out. One of my hiking buddes took his binoculars so we had a close up view. It's very sad. The mountain side where they crashed is not very high.

If you want to gawk, you can wait a year until the smoke clears, and then go. If past experience is any guide, there will be lots of small chunks left over for a looong time.
