WARM SPRINGS MOUNTAIN

This morning my friend Dave and I drove to Castaic and exited Lake Hughes Road. We started our hike on Warm Springs Truck Trail 6N32.1. The entire hike was on the fire road with several washouts along the way. The frst few miles weren't too impressive. We crossed the stream 3 times and stopped to check out the campground where there was a water tank. The views were prettier as we got closer to the summit. The switchbacks were long and the peak couldn't be seen until we reached the last quarter mile of the summit. There was an old lookout tower and a weather station. The tower at the top was barely noticeable because it was hidden by a grove of pine trees. Unfortunately, I was attacked by biting flies and they just would not leave me alone. I forgot my bug spray so I was annoyed and miserable most of the way. The weather was pleasant and we had cool breezes along the way. The summit was huge with 360 degree views and Castaic Lake. We found a shady spot to have lunch. I was so happy to find a Benchmark and a register. Stats 16 miles 2500' gain.

Are there actual springs on this hike? If not, I'll settle for a picture of the stream.

There was a spring by the campsite and we crossed 3 small streams but I did not take a picture of it. But we did find a small mine shaft hidden behind some bushes.

I did a jog up that fire road from Lake Hughes Road a couple of years ago and saw the same mine shaft. Has anyone actually explored that adit? I remember there being a bunch of water in it, but I didn't expect to see it and wasn't planning on going in.

I saw it with water and didn't dare go in. I couldn't tell how deep it was and it didn't look safe

Yeah, it looked a little sketchy when I saw it. I'm definitely curious though, but I wouldn't go in with out a gas monitor.
