When is the next group hike? I need some excitement! Do not schedule one for the last week in September and I prefer Sundays.

Yeah, let's do a group hike. Maybe even a group overnight! If we do that then Hikin Jim has to go so we can try out a bunch of stoves and he can cook for us.

Agreed. A group overnight would be great, especially if Jim goes.

Okay, Cecelia and I can do an overnight on Oct. 13-14 if anyone else is free. I'm open to ideas. Looking for a destination with trees, camping and water nearby.

How about something in the Gabes, since this forum is devoted to the Gabes? I'm cool with Baldy, Baden-Powell, or anything in the high country.

Overnight in San Gabes? How about meet at Little Jimmy and hike to one or all the Hawkins? I’ve never been on that side of Windy Gap.

One of my favorite spots. How about we meet at Little Jimmy campground on Oct. 13 at noon? We can drink some beers and decide where to go from there.

Heads up on the 13th for hunters with guns, opening weekend for deer.

I’m in, although I kind of agree that may not be the best start. Of course we could then decide to have more while watching the sun set from atop a peak.

Parking lot at Islip will be full of pickups and gun racks. The sounds of gunfire echoing through the hills! pop-pop
Where orange and keep the noise (i.e. loud talking) down to a minimum.

If we talk will they mistake us for deer?
Dang, I don't any orange gear. I'll try to stand next to someone else.

LOL. Talking will piss the hunters off because you are scaring their food away. Even if not true (even quiet hikers scare deer away), Elmer will use your loud voices as a convenient excuse for his bad luck and will be mad at you.
Make your presence known to them with hand signals (a polite "hello wave"). If they are good hunters, they already know you are there. If they are drunk Elmers with guns then wearing orange will help them know not to shoot before you get a chance to wave.

I've seen bow hunters above the Chantry Flats area and heavily armed deer hunters just above Henninger Flats so they are not just in the high country. They're everywhere!!!

I am unfamiliar with the rules about deer hunters and hikers. Is Orange a standard color to wear? Why can't I just wear another cool color like Bright Pink? lol.
If deer hunters are so concerned about hikers talking then they shouldn't be hunting near the campgrounds. Seriously, it pisses me off. They can go elsewhere.

I'm not a hunter. I personally think it's lame. But over the years I've encountered a number of hunters. They've always been respectful and I really haven't come across any drunk Bubbas (although I'm sure they're out there). So I'm not going to go out of my way to be a selfish dick during the hunt. I figure hikers have the run of the forest for 11 months out of the year. Letting these (mostly) boys have their fun for 30 days ain't no thing to me. JMO.
