I placed a trail cam in the Santa Anas last month. I got 899 shots of grass blowing in the wind, insects, and one animal:
Buck from a trail cam
I'm not sure my new hobby is off to a great start, but I'll check back in a couple of months. Got to find a better location.

You got something cool with the first try, I'd say it is off to a good start.
I still think old school when we would send in a roll of film hoping for one good shot.

Wow! That sounds like a REALLY successful first try! How did you pick the location, and what are you going to do differently next time? Oh, and I thought deer were diurnal, but here he's doing his thing at night?

JeffH: I can't imagine doing this with film. The time delay would require much more patience.
Dima: I picked a clearing that had animal trails nearby and was away from normal foot traffic. I have one or two ideas for a new location next year. If you find a promising location, let me know. I don't have any firm plans for the next location.

That's very cool. I'm sure you'll figure it out. I imagine the best spots are near water sources.
