I made my 45th trip up to West Fuji today while doing a little trail work. Here are some living things I saw.
Scorpion
Crow or Raven, I think. It was cawing repeatedly.
Unknown small bird. It was foraging on the trail.
A fern, I think. Don't know the specific type.
Pine tree
Unknown flower
Oak trees

Thanks for the IDs. I'm looking forward to seeing all the spring flowers along this trail soon.

'Crow' and 'raven' are generic terms for birds of the genus 'Corvus'. 'Crow' is usually applied to the smaller varieties, 'raven' to the larger. nd they are very smart birds. Almost all are covered with black feathers, so its tough to tell individual species unless you get a really good picture. IF you've ever been to the outback in Alaska, you know what a raven is - they is HUGE!, at least twice as big as the common crows we have here in the SoCal mountains.

Ditto the junco. The black bird is a raven. Nice pics!
