Some of my buddies and I are going to hit a favorite local "secret spot" sometime soon, probably a two-day deal. Lotsa fun routes to do, anything from easy scrambling up to whatever we can push (maybe 5.9), all trad climbing, no bolts AFAIK.
Gonna chill in between stuff, have some beers and sake (going in heavy with coolers on foot!), cookin' up some good food, etc. A great way to spend two days. Anyone seriously interested, ask away, and we'll sort this deal out.
This is also a good way to have a sort of San Gabriel Mountain Board meetup.
A teaser picture of a cool spot:

Dunno, 'round mid August, I figure. Pretty flexible on it.
Big Jim, When they go down do they die or just get hurt?
FIGHT ON, no one need die on a down climb. That's why climbers climb with protection. Surely a Trojan such as yourself should be familiar with protection!

ON THE SIDE OF A CLIFF? Rotate that pic 90 to the right so us old fogies can stand on something! Might as well say let's all meet up 400 feet down scuba diving in shark infested waters. Maybe half way up Baldy Bowl but not there. Not me at least.

I'm a hiker not a climber, but I'll at least drop by to say hi if I can. Might watch for a while and learn a little something but "big boned" boys like me don't make good climbers.

Exactly...I'm not a rock monkey, just a day hiker.

I'll join the chorus, it would be fun for a forum get-together, but I'm not crazy about climbing rocks.

Cool beans, guys. I dont' think everyone would do the climbing, unless y'all wanted to and had harness/some gear/shoes.
Not near Icehouse Canyon.
I am thinking early August fri-sat, or sat-sun.

Can you hike there or is this one of your air drops?

Hike up. You'd do well, it's 8 miles or more up, optional bikeride down.

I have plans for that weekend to go up Baldy. Can't do over nighter then either.
I'll see about another date. I might do this solo, or with a buddy though. Not exactly news-worthy, but just a two-day deal up there, if anyone wants to go.

I like the idea of Board group hikes, as long as they aren't bored group hikes, but the rest of August is not going to hold much hiking for me.

Too damn hot?
If anyone climbs, they would have enough to do to stay occupied. Otherwise, drop by and say hi kinda thing, that would work.

On our last noob overnight we all got drunk and played cards all afternoon. Good times, good times.
Tomorrow I'm heading up again. I have two liters of wine and four Negra Modelos already packed. One of the dudes promises another bottle of wine and another will probably bring a full bottle of Jameson's. The rest of the party are 20 year old students.
And I have a video camera this time.

Sounds like our kinda trip, Simonov!
Hikeup, it's near Mount Hawkins. Still interested?

HU: Cool beans, we probably won't do a larger group on this trip, perhaps later.
I'd like some sort of meetup anytime anyway, just a day or something, preferably somewhere different, with beer involved. All ideas welcome in this thread.
