I have twice planned to do Cucamonga Peak and have had both times canceled. The first due to the ANF closure in October, then in May with the sudden wintry storm that brought snow.
Should I hold up a metal pole at the summit?

Try a 1-iron...only gawd can hit a 1-iron.

Which day ya going? The highest chance for t-storms brought about by moisture is late friday into early saturday at the moment. Whether that initializes is yet to be determined!
It's still 5 days out

Sounds like it's time for an "Alpine Start" (pre-dawn).

What? It's just THUNDER storms. Didn't say anything about LIGHTNING!!. Show those gods how angry you really are J. Hike up there with a one iron AND a metal flag pole!
PS. You don't have to listen to all this. Just listen to the part where the trombones kick in. Who knows, Maybe the voices in your head will hum it from the parking lot all the way to the summit. Hopefully the trombones wont play.BUUAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAA

The doppler showed some severe (red) thunderstorm cells over the SGW earlier today which then moved north to Barstow. The SGM looks clear for now. Will continue to monitor the situation closely.

I'd say you shouldn't go, and if you do go, if you start seeing thunderstorms, get down as fast as possible.
There was a wall cloud(tornado comes shortly after) reported in Johnson Valley today, which is 25 miles southeast of victorville. Severe storms also forecast tonight for big bear area.
Friday/Saturday still supposed to be the most active/best potential for t-storms. Be careful.

Yipes. I'm going to overnight in Cooper Canyon tonight and was hoping to do Thrall Pk. in the morning. I was figuring an "Alpine start" and "off the peaks by noon" would get me by. Hmm...
