Hiked up on Friday. The weather was amazing, blue sky and a light wind until topping out. I left Humber Park at 10:00 a.m. A little late but thought I would give it a go. The trail was mostly clear until just below Saddle Junction. At that point I put mini-spikes on and continued. There were places they came in handy, and places that dulled them on rock and sand. It was a mixed bag but having taken a fall a couple of months before in Ice House Canyon I kept them on.
Reached Saddle Junction in 1hr10m and headed for Wellman Divide. From There the trail was ice and snow half way to the switchback, and then rock. Ice from the switchback to the San Jacinto Junction and finally onto snow the rest of the way to the summit. 4 1/2 hours up, 3 1/2 down, forever views on top and the mountain all to myself.
Somehow it beat going to work on Friday.
