Yes, I've been there. There is no lake.

That's what I was trying to say in one of my posts on the SJ board. It was a dry, cracked mud flat the last time I was there with some brown, dead grass around it. It wasn't even a meadow.

The "lake" (it's really more of a shallow vernal pool) is more of a "wet year" kind of a thing. In a dry year, don't waste your time. Round Valley is much prettier or go over to Skunk Cabbage Meadow. If you really like lakes, head up to the Sierra and see some real ones. Hidden "Lake" is a bit of a disappointment most of the time. If we get another 2005 type heavy rain year, it might be interesting...

Jim. On the San Jacinto Forum I was trying to confirm where the Momyer Trail was and posted the map with the two flags. Then I posted another separate map to show Tinabalina where the parking lot to the Vivian Creek Trail was. When I did that the first map changed to the same as the second. Why does that happen? Thanks in advance.

FIGHT ON:

You have to use the fully qualified URL (web address) in order to get the right map using the Acme Mapper. For example, here's a map of the Momyer Creek Trail: http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=34.09915,-11 ... ntain%20CA.

Notice how long the URL is. Now close that window. Now open just the basic Acme Mapper URL http://mapper.acme.com. You should see the same map (Momyer Cr. Tr.) as before.

Now open this URL which is of the Three T's from Ontario Peak: http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=34.24757,-11 ... Baldy%20CA. Notice how long the URL is. Now close that window. Now open just the basic Acme Mapper URL http://mapper.acme.com. You should see the same map (Three T's this time) as the immediate prior link.

All that to say, you have to use the fully qualified URL (web address) in order to get the right map using the Acme Mapper. On the Acme Mapper control panel in the lower right hand corner, you have to click on the "Link to this page" link in order for Acme Mapper to generate the fully qualified URL for you. I'm a little tired; I hope that makes sense. :)

Jim. It looks like I fixed the map for Tinabalinas vivian creek parking lot. http://www.mtsanjacinto.info/viewtopic.php?t=959
I am pretty much an idiot with computers.
What I did was go to that link and it was showing the Baldy area up close. So I zoomed out and moved the map over to the Gorgonio area and it had a billion marks on it. Who knows how that happened? But then I deleted them and put only one mark on the parking lot. Then cliked the link to this page thing and closed the window. then checked the link again from that post and it worked! I took the Acme mapper off my tool bar and tried to open a fresh one but it is still linked to that parking lot. So if I try to make another map like to identify where the photo is located I fear it will change the Vivian creek parking lot location again. What am I doing wrong? I got some of it at least I fixed that post. Thanks for your help.
:D

No, that link doesn't appear to be right. The address you listed is http://mapper.acme.com which can never be right. You have to list a fully qualified URL, in other words a web address that spells it all out. A long web address. If all you are listing is the base address, http://mapper.acme.com, then you'll never have the map go to a specific place.

Make sure, after you've clicked on the "link to this page" link, that you copy the URL that it generates. It will generate the address in the standard area (usually at the top of your internet explorer window). The address should look like this:

Code: Select all

http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=34.24526,-117.59349&z=14&t=T&marker0=34.24526%2C-117.59349%2C3.8%20mi%20E%20of%20Mount%20Baldy%20CA&marker1=34.25122%2C-117.59628%2C3.8%20mi%20ExNE%20of%20Mount%20Baldy%20CA&marker2=34.24427%2C-117.59624%2C3.7%20mi%20E%20of%20Mount%20Baldy%20CA&marker3=34.22781%2C-117.62409%2C2.1%20mi%20ExSE%20of%20Mount%20Baldy%20CA&marker4=34.25683%2C-117.60173%2C3.3%20mi%20SE%20of%20Mount%20San%20Antonio%20CA&marker5=34.26513%2C-117.60607%2C2.8%20mi%20SE%20of%20Mount%20San%20Antonio%20CA
(which is long)

NOT this:

Code: Select all

http://mapper.acme.com
(which is short)

ok I marked Redlands with the A marker. and cliked link to this page and copied this link and pasted it here.
http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=34.05522,-11 ... ntone%20CA
Ok then I closed the acme mapper and cliked the above link and it worked.
Now I am going to open up the acme mapper again and do a different location.
I just opened another acme mapper and the A marker is on it. Why? If I clear it I bet it goes away from the above linked page. When I open a new acme mapper is it supposed to be free of any markers?
Marked San Bernardino with A. http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=34.11806,-11 ... rdino%20CA

Well it worked I think. I hope. All this is written in the preview so here goes to submit!

Just cliked both links and it worked! Thanks Jim. Now can I change that one on Tinabalinas map? I will try. Thanks again. :D

Just went to her topic and cliked it and it is marked on redlands lol.
I can't change it because I can't edit it. So I guess it will be forever messed up. Why does it change though? Will it change with every new link that I post? THIS IS CRAZY STUFF

You have to edit the post and change the link.

don't think that is possible on sjmb. the edit button disappears soon after I post there. Unlike here where it never goes away.
Oh and hey dude, thanks for your help. :)
