After that spot burned just above Azusa a short time ago, I looked up at a small canyon that looked kinda interesting before the fire, and it looked pretty sweet after. Way different character. I had never done a canyon in a freshly burned zone before and the idea of having to actually work for anchors was a big bonus.

I didn't know if I wanted to call it Crimmas Canyon or Skeletor Canyon, so I asked my buddy John who combined the two. Some insight for those of you who wonder how things are named. 8)

It took me a little over an hour to hike up from the car. I was pretty beat because I was excited and ran up partway before hitting the wall that is the result of inactivity for almost 2 weeks coupled with terrible nutrition. Muscles be crampin! Anyway, pic time.

Dead center.

Partway up. Little plants starting to push up.

USGS marker

More ridge with ramen legs to climb it!

Everyone's favorite mining thing!

Way up into the wilderness south of Monrovia Peak. I've always wondered what kind of horrible bushwhacking multiday canyoneering misadventure could be had on this side of Monrovia Canyon.

Looking down the canyon. Light and shadow.

Anchor for rapp #1, and the rapp which was 20ft maybe? Very very loose ground until near the end of the canyon.

Of course this is the first to come back. I thought I might take a phto of me rubbing it all over myself to taunt those who are not immune. Decided against it as I'd not be able to touch anything or anyone for a while.

Easy downclimbing

Way too strong

The rapp

Two caves on a rappel

Crimmas cheer

What the next anchor started as

What I replaced it with. I'm getting old! ;)

Steep 80ft rapp to the ground, and a walk out.

Typical kit for something like this. Not much gear, just a buncha webbing and links etc with the bare minimum of everything else.

I think there were 4 rappels or so. It was fun.

Merry crimmas folks!

Wow. Such scenic beauty. Reminds me of Trona.
